Amazon Beauty Finds You Need

spring makeup affordable on amazon

With Spring approaching rapidly, it’s important we all have our hair, skin and makeup all sorted out. The transition from Winter to the warmer months means we have to re-vamp a few things in our routine so we can look and feel our best. Here are a few products from Amazon that will take your look to the next level:

Buxom Plumping Lipstick in ‘Icon’: This lipstick formula has a bit of a tingle and provides a slight ‘plumping effect’. If that sensation is a hard ‘no’ for you, skip out on this and go for one that doesn’t say ‘plumping’. I personally don’t mind it and the color is absolutely stunning. Good corals are hard to come by. In the past they have looked chalky or ashy, but this is the perfect blend of warmth and pigment. (click here to buy)

Banila Co Cleansing Balm: It’s 2020 and that means we have all graduated from using makeup wipes as our primary method of removing makeup. I do think wipes have their place in your routine, i.e. removing swatches or dried on liquid lipsticks. But within the last year, I’ve switched to using a cleansing balm to remove my makeup as Step 1 of my nightly double cleanse. This product warms up in the hands and quickly breaks down makeup so you can easily rinse it off, without tugging or pulling on the skin too much. My personal favorite way to remove the balm is with warm water and a muslin cloth. (click here to buy)

Hourglass Ambient Light Palette: Not all highlighters are created equal, and thank goodness for it. Honestly, I don’t know if I even classify this as a highlighter, because it’s actually more of a filter. Truly, dusting this on gives you this airbrushed, filtered look that I’ve never gotten from another powder. This has luminosity, but it’s not the bling bling highlighter of 2014 we all use to wear. This is pretty pricy, but a little goes a long way and it’s changed my makeup look significantly. (click here to buy)

Rimmell London ‘Zenzero’ Liner: Lipliners make my world go ’round. Everyone has their one product that they are obsessed with and for me, it’s liners. If I were to ever start a makeup line, it would be liners in every shade of browns, nudes, and tans. They’re hard to come by and when you find a winning color with a great formula, you have to hold on tight. I found these liners at the drugstore many years ago, and ever since then, they have been my favorite. More than MAC, NARS, MAKE UP FOREVER, or any other high end brand, these have always performed better. The color is a warm, toasty mahogany and compliments most skin tones and lipstick shades. I particularly love the way it’s paired with the Buxom lipstick in the color ‘Icon’. (click here to buy)

DUO Brush On Lash Glue: Lash glue is critical for flawless makeup. For me, I like this formula because it dries quickly (much faster that the glue in the DUO tubes). It also dries clear, because I don’t always wear eyeliner and I don’t want to commit to the black glue. Also, I love that you can control how much product is applied because it’s simply brushed on, rather than squeezing out glue and transferring it onto the lash band. I feel that this is comparable to the House of Lashes glue in the drying consistency, but it doesn’t take 100 years to get off your eye. (click here to buy)

Hourglass Gloss in ‘Truth’: Gloss is back y’all. Honestly, I’m thankful for it. Liquid lipsticks totally had their moment, but there’s nothing like a youthful, glossy nude that wears all day and doesn’t transfer all over the place. I typically don’t spend a ton on glosses, but I kept hearing how fabulous this formula was so I gave it a try. Working in sales means I cannot have my makeup move all over the place and I can’t stop to touch up a ton either. This gloss adheres to  the lips well, without moving too much. It does have a bit of a tingling sensation because it’s supposed to plump, but I don’t mind that. It wears off after a bit, and the color range is gorgeous. (click here to buy)

Bed Head Urban Antidotes Recover Shampoo and Conditioner: When I turned 32, I noticed a shift in my hair texture. It became a little more coarse, and drier. I know I can do my part to eat more foods with fatty acids, but I wanted to repair it externally as well. I switched my shampoos from the ‘clarifying’ formula to this much more hydrating one. Also, I’ve been skipping blow dries and letting this conditioner soak in to provide maximum hydration. The scent is fruity and fresh too, which is a double win for me. Within a few washes, I noticed a difference and will keep you all updated. (click here to buy)

Nighttime Essentials for The Best Beauty Sleep

anti aging night time routine for best skin

No matter how tired or totally exhausted I am, I always perform my nighttime routine. I know that everyone’s nighttime routine differs and based on your skin type, you may or may not benefit from the products that I suggest. If there’s one thing that we can all agree on, despite the products you use, is that we all have a few things we cannot live without. Some ‘non-negotiables’ if you will. For me, I often find myself picking at my skin after I’ve removed my makeup and washed my face. This habit became problematic when I noticed that this nasty habit was starting to cause scarring. So one thing that I invested in to really soften up the skin, prior to be extracting (fancy word for digging out your pores) is a facial steamer. I then lather up my eyes with almond oil, put on my ‘blue-light’ protection glasses, fill up my thermos and snuggle under my weighted blanket. I know it sounds like a lot, but in true Pameluxe fashion, I breakdown why I swear by these 5 items:

Facial Steamer: Having a facial steamer is super important for really creating that ‘at-home’ spa like experience. It’s calming, opens up the pores and really softens up the skin. When the pores are open, the face begins to sweat and releases built-up, residual makeup, and really helps purge the gunk that burrows deep within our skin. Taking time steam the face is also essential if you like to pick at your blemishes, pop your zits and really just go to town on problem areas. Yeah, I said it, because as much as we all hate to admit it, we’ve all been there. Although we should try to avoid it as much as possible, there is a right way to go about it. First and foremost, make sure your hands are clean because you don’t want to deposit more bacteria into the open pore. Secondly, steam the face because going in on skin that isn’t softened increases your chances are scarring and using unnecessary force can cause bruising. And lastly, while the pores are open, you want to cleanse and then follow up with a splash of cold water. Cold water causes the pores to shrink back up and tighten. There’s a few facial steamers on the market that can be upwards of $120, but the one that I use is from Amazon and it gets the job done just fine.  Facial Steamer Nano Ionic Hot Steam For Face Personal Sauna SPA Quality Moisturizing Pores Cleanse Clear Blackheads Acne Impurities Skin Cares Mini Home Humidifier: https://shopstyle.it/l/0YT7

Cute Water Bottle: What can I say about drinking water that hasn’t already been said? Water is vital for your organs and although we don’t always feel the immediate benefits of that, it definitely shows up in our hair and skin health. Water is super key for skin health because it helps filter out toxins, and keeps the skin vibrant and elastic. It’s super critical for cell growth aka cell turnover, which allows healthy, glowy skin to shine through. Aside from our chapped lips and dry itchy skin, dehydration can also show up in the form of dry cuticles. I notice that when I am slacking on my hydration, my cuticles are dryer and often start to peel. The way I combat this is to always to go bed with a thermos of water. It’s become my nightly ritual and honestly I can’t live without guzzling 20-30 ounces of water each night. I drink quite a bit of water during the day, but I still love to end my day this way. I personally like warm water with lemon and a little dash of Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. For me, having a cute thermos is important, but not as important the functionality of it. I love the Simple Modern blush pink thermos because it’s super insulated so it retains the heat/cold and doesn’t leak. Weighted Blanket: Sleeping with a weighted blanket has literally ruined all other sleep situations for me! No joke, I loved snuggling in my mom’s bed and what I realized is that it wasn’t her bed that I was obsessed with, it was how heavy her comforter was. So on my quest for a ‘heavy’ bed sheet/comforter set, I found a weighted blanket on Amazon. Weighted blankets and other weighted products have been used in the medical field for things like PTSD, insomnia and *drumroll please* anxiety. I noticed that my anxiety peaks at night when I start to plan/obsesses over future events. Weighted blankets offer deep touch pressure which raise serotonin (happy hormone) and offer a calming effect. Deep touch pressure also triggers melatonin (sleep hormone) release and helps you sleep deeper, longer. Anything that helps me calm down, alleviates my anxiety and gets me better sleep is a must. The weighted blanket I use is by Amy Garden on Amazon. Amy Garden Weighted Blanket (60″x80″,15 lbs for 140-150 lbs Individual, Grey) | 2.0 Adults Heavy Blanket: https://shopstyle.it/l/000B

Blue Light Glasses: Our eyes are super sensitive to different wavelengths of light, and the one that bombards us the most is ‘blue’ light. The blue light emitted from televisions and cell phone screens actually disrupt your body’s circadian rhythm which tricks our brain into thinking it’s day time. So although most of our nighttime routines involve scrolling and swiping away on our phones, blocking your eyes from the blue light is super important at night. One thing I do have to mention is that not all blue light is bad, but if you are going to be working on a screen within 2 hours of the time you want to hit the hay, make sure you are protecting yourself by wearing the proper eyewear. The blue light glasses I have are a super affordable pair from Amazon. A few brands released some really cute styles as well, but since I only wear them at night, I didn’t want to spend a ton. TIJN Blue Light Blocking Glasses Square Nerd Eyeglasses Frame Anti Blue Ray Computer Game Glasses: https://shopstyle.it/l/003o

Almond Oil: Of all the oils on the market, my absolute favorite on has to be Almond oil. Almond oil is incredible for lightening the under eye area, which is one area of my face that I absolutely obsess over. The eye and under eye area is extremely delicate and it needs to be treated totally different from the rest of the face. One step of my nighttime skincare routine that I cannot skip is hydrating my under eyes. Each night, after I’ve cleansed, scrubbed, steamed, extracted and toned, I take a quarter size amount of almond oil and go to town on my eyes. To be honest, I apply so much that I almost look *insane* but T has just gotten used to my greasy eye region, lol. I buy my Almond Oil from Amazon but I’ve seen the brand that I swear by at Whole Foods as well. Almond oil is packed with essential fatty acids that enhance the protective barriers in our skin, and revitalize dehydrated skin which often has a darker appearance. How To Fight Wrinkles with Berries

How To Fight Wrinkles with Berries

I know, you’re thinking, “Groundbreaking Pam…berries?” And I know, it’s not. But the thing is, I can’t not tell you about the benefits of berries for your skin. As I’ve been digging into what actually counteracts aging and damaged skin, I figured out what wrinkles and facial lines truly were, and how important it is to consume a wide variety of berries.

Mattress face?

So our skin is basically like an old school mattress with metal coils. The ‘coils’ are actually collagen fibers that are super firm at first, with just the right amount of bounce. Overtime, like a mattress, these collagen coils began to lose their resilience and bounce. The areas that lost their spring start to form lines and wrinkles, because they no longer have that strong coil underneath to support their structure. And this doesn’t just happen in our face. Collagen is connective tissue, which means it’s everywhere in the body. The reason we notice changes in the face so quickly is because it’s a prime target for sun damage and perpetual creasing (i.e. brow raising, smiling, laughing, etc). Lucky for us, unlike mattress coils, we can actually give life back to the collagen fibers in our skin. Aside from a variety of topical treatments and procedures (which I will totally dive into on another post), we can consume things to stimulate collage production from within. Vitamin C found in berries is a critical element in the production of collagen. This is the very thing that gives the bounce back to the aforementioned ‘coils’. Also, the more commonly known benefit of berries is that they are packed with anti-oxidants. That just sounds like it’s good for you, which would satisfy most curious minds, but some may wonder what anti-oxidants really do.

How Collagen Can Help Wrinkles

Free Radical, You Can’t Sit With Us.

So basically, when our skin breaks down from normal wear and tear, or ‘oxidative stress’, paired atoms are broken up. Some atoms end up back in a pair, and some are left to their lonesome. These unpaired atoms, known as free radicals, are left free to wreak havoc on nearby tissues and cells. It’s like your newly single girlfriend. At first, she seems okay, but by the third weekend of ‘Single Cindy in The City’, you and your liver can’t take it anymore. These terrible free radicals make their debut in the form of brown spots/hyper-pigmentation, broken blood vessels, and inflammation. The inflammation, which you may not actually see at the surface level of skin, literally suffocates the collagen and POOF-wrinkles. Oh, and did I mention that there are only 84 calories in a cup of blueberries? Get the 3 a.m. Taco Bell platter away from Cindy and slip her some berries; she’ll thank you in the morning.

It’s like Xanax for your skin.

Strawberries contain much of the same magical goodness as blueberries, in that it’s low calorie, fights inflammation and has a high vitamin C count. What makes strawberries stand out in the berry line up is that it actually contains biotin, which is key for healthy, shiny hair and strong nails. It also contains Ellagic Acid. Ellagic Acid stops the the destruction of free radicals by constantly neutralizing them before they even have the chance to cause inflammation. It’s like Xanax for your skin. And they perform like total rockstars when applied topically. They can help fight acne with their salicylic acidic properties, and contain alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) which can serve as a gentle exfoliator.

I’m Down With KMC, Yeah You Know Me.

I’m talking about Vitamin K, Manganese and and Calcium. This trifecta of goodness is found in blackberries and helps with PMS cramps and heavy, painful menstruation. You heard me right. Vitamin K is essential in blood clotting which may ease excessive bleeding, and also helps regulate your hormones, #amen. The Manganese can actually curb mood swings, combat depression and alleviate headaches. The days before you begin your period are when you experience the lowest absorption rates of calcium. Low calcium, or hypocalcemia, can cause that irritability and anxiety we all experience from time to time. To combat this, increasing the amount of calcium we consume totally  helps. It also fights the intensity of our cramps, bloating, weight gain and tender breast swelling. Why wasn’t this all taught in ‘Sex Ed.’ again?

So the next time you’re thinking about cutting back on sugar, carbs, or fruits all together, remember that there aren’t weights at the gym to firm up a wrinkly face.
