How to be the ultimate host

how to host a guest

With the Summer months upon us, it’s super important to make sure that our house is up to par with the hosting situation. I mean, to be honest, my guests haven’t ever really complained, but it’s a paranoia of mine to be a lackluster host. I take a ton of pride in hosting because I would hate for someone to stay with me, and feel like their needs weren’t met. This is definitely a common trait that my husband and I both have, being that he is exceptionally accommodating as well. We don’t have the largest house, in fact our 2 bedroom town home suits us well. We have made sure that every nook and cranny of this place has a touch of luxury and comfort. Recently, I swapped out a few older decor items from some new goodies, all from Amazon. Since I work full-time as a nurse, I rely on Amazon quite a bit for literally everything. What isn’t shown in the photo up above is my little signage that I keep in the guest bedroom which lists our wi-fi information. I know it’s nothing revolutionary, but it is important to remember that your guests will at some point need to enter it on a few different devices.

Winsome 92436 Luggage Rack with Shelf: A luggage rack is kind of a no-brainer when you think about checking into a hotel, but when you’re at someone’s home, it’s just as helpful. If you think about luggage, it’s drug across the gross airport floor, through a ton of countries and cities. You don’t want your guests to have to set their luggage on the ground and dig through it, nor (eck) set it up on the bed. To avoid this catastrophe, it’s best to have something for them to rest their belongings on. This luggage rack is one the highest rated ones on Amazon, and you can easily paint it to match whatever room you’re placing it in. It just happened to match the room we have, so I left it as is.

Kate and Laurel Sylvie Female Baby Bunny Rabbit Animal Print Portrait Framed Canvas Wall Art by Amy Peterson, 23×33, Gray: For the guest bathroom, I wanted to keep the palette neutral, but still have personal touches. Since the paint is Behr ‘Elephant Skin’, I stuck with a grey theme and snagged this ultra cute framed canvas of a rabbit. T jokes often that I look like a rabbit, so I thought it would be perfect for the space. The same artist has a few different animals done in this format. Her other pieces are super cute and I’ve even seen some similar items like this at Home Goods.

Genteele Non-Slip Memory Foam Shaggy Bathroom Mat, Water Absorbent, Super Plush Bath Mat, Washable Bathroom Rug (17″ X 24″, Gray): Okay, so you’re probably thinking that it’s kind of silly to swap out your bathmats, but hear me out. Bath mats are one of those tactile things that resonate with your guests. It’s one of the first surfaces they feel when they wake up and groom, and it’s important that they feel as plush as possible. I ordered these based on the reviews and I am SO happy with them!  They feel like a cloud and have a luxury look to them as well. It was important that the pile fibers weren’t all the exact length/height. The variety of heights makes them look more expensive and they come in a few different colors.

AmazonBasics Zippered Storage Bag with Window: I know that most linen comes in its own plastic/vinyl bag, but I always throw that out. The plastic isn’t breathable, and it’s kind of tacky to me to keep the bag with the photo of the bedding around after purchase. When preparing linens, I always wash and place bedding into these breathable canvas bags. They come in a few different sizes and colorways, and fit neatly under the bed. It keeps the look cohesive and organized, and not like a department store.

ModLux Spa Slippers – 12 Pairs of Cotton Velvet Closed Toe Slippers with Travel Bags – Thick, Soft, Non-Slip, Disposable Slippers – Fits Most Men and Women – Perfect for Home, Hotel, or Commercial Use: When T and I got married, we knew our guests would dance the night away. We also anticipated that many girls would want to kick off their heels and get comfortable, so we provided slippers in all sizes for the guests. From that point on, I have always purchased a variety pack of unisex white slippers from Amazon and kept them in the guest bathroom/bedroom. It’s just a little touch that the guest can take with them, because honestly, I wouldn’t wash and re-use slippers that have been worn anyway. I can get a little squirmish when I think about hotel amenities and wished that they had more items that can be taken or thrown out like slippers and robes. These slippers come in a variety pack of sizes and always get compliments from guests that stay.

Capri Blue Petite Jar Volcano White Candle, 4 Ounce: Blue Capri candles are kind of a cult favorite, which is no surprise because it smells absolutely heavenly. The fruity, sweet scent is light enough to offer a fragrance, but not too overbearing. The candles comes in a few different colored jars so you can always find one that works for your space. It also comes in a few different sizes, but since I was placing on the sink and I wanted to be conservative, I went with a smaller size. I also find that even though it has a slightly tropical scent, it still burns nicely in Fall and Winter.

Bourina Throw Blanket Textured Solid Soft for Sofa Couch Decorative Knitted Blanket, 50″ x 60″,Off White: Throw blankets are must because they are inviting and make a space more approachable. I feel like you can easily spend a ton on a cute statement blanket, but I came across this super inexpensive blanket and fell in love. Because the weight of the blanket is so light, it drapes nicely and doesn’t take away from the rest of the decor. I don’t personally love the zig-zag pattern, so I just flipped it over and let the plain side show. The part that makes the blanket look a little more luxurious is the fringe detail. The tassels are long which hang beautifully off the sofa. I ordered it in ‘Off White’.

Convenience Kits International Women’s Premium 21-Piece Assembled Necessities Travel Kit, Featuring: Fructis Hair Products: Each time I order something from Sephora, I get a ton of samples. Between trying out new skincare and makeup for the blog, and making sure I tell you guys if I like it, I often don’t get around to all of it. So I decided to set aside my samples and arrange them into a basket with some rolled up towels for my guests. They can choose from a little Tatcha, Ole Henriksen and Dr. Dennis Gross. There are sheet masks, Poo-Pouri, and a jade roller as well. I find that because I love skincare so much, it’s important that guests get to indulge a bit too. If you don’t have an arsenal of product to offer, I highly recommend getting this kit for men or women from Amazon. It has everything a guest could need, and it comes in a toiletry bag. My tip is to ditch the toiletry bag and place it in a basket or cute tray to make it feel a little more personal. These toiletry kits are kind of a one-stop-shop and can even be purchased for yourself if you’re not very product specific.

What You Need From Amazon

summer makeup and fashion must haves

You guys know the amazon obsession is absolutely real. Amazon is such an incredible site for streamlining your life if you are on the go, a little last minute, or just really don’t love shopping in person. As their selection for clothing and accessories is only getting better, I really wanted to take some time to highlight some of the fabulous pieces they have right now. Here in Dallas, where the sun is absolutely unforgiving, I try to find a happy medium between looking like I just left the pool and being season appropriate. The items I got this week have totally been great Summer staples, and I know you guys will love them to.

FLOYU Button Down Romper Women Solid Color Short Sleeve Casual Summer Short Jumpsuit with Pockets: This linen romper was a tricky one for me at first. I loved the fabric, simplicity and color, but once I tried it on, I wasn’t so sure. I wore it anyway, because I firmly believe that if you act like you can pull something off, you typically do. And guess what? I got a ton of compliments at an influencer event I went to. The event was at Sunglass Hut Northpark and they had makeup artists from Glamsquad doing touch ups, cute refreshments and all access to the seasons newest styles. It was such a fun event and I started to feel like I looked a little less ‘Prince George’ as time went on. I also noticed that it didn’t wrinkle as quickly as my other linen items, which was as total plus.

STHUAHE 3PCS Hair Bands,Women Handmade Lovely Style Cloth Cross Knot Hair Hoop Hairband Headband Headwear Hair Accessories by Beauty Hair (multicolor): When it doubt, just ask yourself, ‘What Would Blair Waldorf Do?’. Just kidding, because although she was a style arbiter, we all know she was a total bully. But one thing we cannot take away from her character was the ability to inject headbands into a ton of her looks. Right now, headbands are all the rage, but truly, I never stopped loving them. They are such a great way to pull hair away from the face, add a touch of volume to the crown, hide dirty hair and the list goes on. I wore the yellow striped headband to a concert last night and did I mention that it was an outdoor concert?! It was brutal, but fashion over function for me and I did not want to put my hair up. So this headband was a great compromise and kept me (semi) cool. It comes in a three pack and there are a ton of cute designer dupes on Amazon too. I just ordered these cute “Gucci-esque” ones, and they are arriving with ‘Same Day Shipping’ eeeek!

Natural Chic Hand-Woven Round Handle Ring Toto Retro Large Casual Summer Beach Handbags (Yellow Grass 15.7×12 H inches): Straw Summer totes are an essential, but I struggle to pay a ton for them, simply because they aren’t really bags. They are meant for the beach, and when I see some that go up as much as $50, I kinda die inside. I wanted to upgrade my summer bag situation from the Cult Gaia dupe everyone had, to something softer with more flexibility. I also knew that even though I am a babe on a budget, I still wanted the bag to have a refined, luxurious edge to it. So I went for a bag that was less  ‘raffia’/straw looking, which can sometimes be a little muted, and grabbed this yellow straw bag instead. I loved the shape and the inside is lined with a creamy linen fabric. It also comes to a drawstring closure so that I don’t have to worry about my stuff falling out, or being exposed like other totes. It is also incredibly lightweight which is nice. The round handles are great for tying on cute little tassels or scarves so you can get some versatility out of it as well.

Kimono Kimonos for Women Beach Cover up Floral Print Short Sleeve Loose Open Front Cotton Cardigans DusterAlthough I am considered petite, I do struggle with one main body part: my arms. I have always held a little weight in my arms and while I am actively trying to sculpt them, I find it hard to expose them outright, even though it’s 500 degrees here. These gorgeous, sheer Summer kimonos are so great for adding coverage to the arms without the weight of a long sleeve. I have to wear this piece with an elevated shoe simply because it drags on the ground when I don’t. I am 5’1 and that is typically not an issue until it’s time to wear floor length dusters. It did come with a sash but that’s not really how I wanted to wear it, but can we just talk about the color scheme here!? I am obsessed with the pattern and pops of turquoise throughout the piece. I wore this with a plain grey tank and some olive jeans and loved the way it worked with some many different colors in my outfit. This vendor has a few different styles and color ways, but this was my favorite. It’s also on prime so how can you resist?!

Levi’s Women’s 721 High Rise Distressed Skinny Jeans, Rugged Indigo, BlueWhen I am not living in denim shorts, I have been reaching for these Levis high rise jeans with giant gaping holes at the knee. I have lusted over these via all the tall beautiful bloggers in Insta. Not being so tall myself, I knew that I was going to have to get these hemmed or cut a raw hem myself. One thing you should know is that these jeans have very little stretch. They pull you in tight, stay in place and don’t budge. Depending on how you like your denim to fit, this could be an issue. I do find that because the holes in the knees are so large, you get a little wiggle room  (and air!). It’s hard to wear jeans when it’s so hot out, but this destroyed pair in the lighter wash is totally great for Summer.

5) AOMEI Women Spring Summer Blouses with Puff Sleeve Sashes Shirts TopsThis top, hands down, is the must universally flattering top in my wardrobe. It wraps at the waist, hides my arms (blah) and cuts off right at the waist so I don’t feel swallowed. I have it in another striped pattern, which several of my readers really loved. When I saw the gingham pattern, I knew it would be a great summer staple as well. The lightweight cotton fabric works well for this heat, and it can be worn with ripped denim shorts, or wide legged white trousers. It comes in a few other patterns, but not all of the fabrics are the same for each top. My striped one is a silk/poly blend and this gingham one is cotton. Both wrap and drape beautifully and you know I am a sucker for anything that ties into a bow.

this week

So I know that Summer is officially here and when most people think of Summer, they don’t typically think about wearing dark colors. But it is what it is and black will always be staple in my wardrobe. I love anything leopard and rhinestone because of course, I’m from Texas, but black is definitely up there with my favorites. It’s forever timeless and will always looks slightly more expensive than most other colors. I rounded up a few of my favorite black items (or items that match the current black aesthetic) that will help you kill your glam game this Summer.

  1. Mark & Graham Build Your Bag: This bag is SUCH a steal. It was gifted to me for Christmas and it has a beautiful pebbled leather look that gives it that *expensive* appeal. The strap is interchangeable so you can wear it a few different ways AND it has a monogram option for your initials (need I say more!?). The monogram is metallic and the strap assortment comes with a cross body option that makes it a great travel option. It’s also 100% leather with a linen lining and can instantly elevate your outfit.
  2. Everfaith Leopard Cocktail Ring: This ring is a total dupe for the Cartier leopard which is uber pricey. I know that obviously having the real thing is on my bucket list, but in the mean time, I get to wear this and enjoy the over-the-top glam it adds to my outfits. I love wearing large cocktail rings on my index finger a la Rachel Zoe and keeping the rest of the jewels to a minimum. This ring fits true to size and has green cubic zirconium eyes, mimicking the authentic Cartier Panthere which retails for upwards of $23,000. I have chubby fingers and wear a size 8. Plus, as if you need anymore of an incentive to buy this, it’s available on prime.
  3. Hair Tamer Croc Styling Clips: When it comes to styling my hair, nothing is really more frustrating that trying to blow dry wet, dense hair. In order for me to properly tame my frizz and ensure that each section is getting dry, I have to use ‘Croc’ clips to divide my hair. These clips are the best for really gripping hair, whether its soaking wet from the shower, or being colored or just simply pulling it out of your face. The teeth of the clips are staggered so that no hair slips through, but it does not pull on the hair, making them great for avoiding creases.
  4. Adidas Women’s Essentials Linear Sweatshirt: Let met start off by saying that is not a true sweatshirt, I think of this more as a ‘Summer Sweater’. It’s warm enough to throw on in cold restaurants, but not totally lined with fleece like the $65 version of this sweatshirt would be. I love that it’s black and white, so you can throw it on with brightly colored shorts and make it Summery.  I ordered a medium, and I don’t mind the fit, but if you are going for a more over sized, relaxed look, definitely size up. It comes in 3 color ways, and the next one I am going to get is the dark grey with baby pink font.
  5. eBoot Spa Makeup Terry Cloth Headband: You guys know I prolong my hair washes as long as I possibly can. One of the preventative measures that I take to ensure that I can stretch this window out is to avoid getting my hairline wet when I am removing my makeup. I have a pretty extensive skincare routine and in order to ensure that I get every bit of makeup off, I have to get my cleanser and toner into the hair line without saturating my strands. This spa headband allows me to strategically cleanse my face, without soaking the perimeter of my hairline. It also goes over my ears, so when I’m splashing away, I don’t have to worry about water getting in them. I also really love wearing this while I’m doing makeup and while I’m doing my at home dermaplaning.
  6. Forever 21 Faux Leather Espadrille Wedges: I know, I know. Who shops at Forever 21 anymore? It’s super random, but I stand by the fact that they have some great pieces that look much more expensive than they really are. While searching for a black wedge, that still had a Summery vibe to them, I found these super adorable two tone espadrilles. When I ordered them online (which is the only way to shop Forever 21) I was so pleased with how ‘designer’ the looked. The leather has clean lines, with no colored stitching. And although I don’t wear wedges often, espadrilles are my exception. It’s the perfect heel for comfort and height. I also knew I wanted a pair with a black accent but not totally black, with the natural raffia color tied in. Quite honestly, I can’t believe these are less than $30 and they are extremely comfortable.
  7. Express Knotted V-Neck Elastic Waist Mini Dress: Repeat after me: I WILL BUY THIS DRESS. Holy flattering y’all. This dress was what my body needed this summer. I am self-conscious about my arms, since that’s where I hold a lot of my weight. While I am actively working on becoming more fit, I like a simple dress that helps me conceal my insecurities, and highlight the attributes I am more confident about. When I tried this one, I could not get over the fabric. It draped so beautifully and ties at the waist to pull you in. It comes in two colors, but I had to get the black. This dress would work great for a wedding, work, a date or even a night out with the girls.
  8. Rownyeon Portable Makeup Train Case: So let me start off by saying that this is far from compact, and it’s not super flexible. That being said, it is SUPER durable and it can be used for your makeup when you travel, as a freelancer or to store tech equipment. This case comes with compartments, making your getting ready process super streamlined, and they can be moved to meet your needs. The top flap has brush storage which helps keep all of your beauty items secure in one place. Behind the brush holders, there are larger pouches that can hold flat items like a mirror, a mini ring light, towels, skincare or more brushes. I first used this when I was freelancing and it helped my assistants and I stay organized and work efficiently.
  9. RCMA No-Color Powder: As you guys know, it’s tough to properly discuss makeup products in text, because visually, you gain so much more via demonstration in my videos. What I can tell you about this powder is that it really locks your foundation in without adding additional pigmentation to your skin. I like this powder particularly for Summer because during this time of year, we often swap out our full coverage foundations for might sheer-to-medium formulas. These lighter weight formulas don’t always need that opacity that heavier duty powders offer. Sometimes, we just need something that is going to seal in the superficial layer of our product, reduce shine and keep things in place. This powder isn’t really going to highlight or blur, it’s more of a finisher. It’s lightweight, non-caking and works on all skin tones.
  10. NYX Professional Makeup Faux Blacks: Adding a pop of color to the waterline is on of my favorite ways to add a little jazz to your look. As you can tell from my makeup, I’m not super obsessed with black eyeliner, especially in the waterline, because to me, it can look a little harsh with my eye shape. If I reach for an eyeliner to throw on my waterline, it’s typically dark brown. It adds the depth and dimension, without the harsh pigmentation. Not all dark brown liners are created equally, and since I don’t wear liners every single day, I really didn’t want to invest in a super expensive one. NYX liners in this specific ‘faux black’ range is great because they are rich and creamy, comfortable on the eye, and great for smudging out as an eye shadow base. They also offer a range of colors so you can choose the one that will make your eyes pop. Aside from the dark brown, I love the navy because it actually makes my eyes a little brighter. These shades are matte as well, which means you won’t get random shards of glitter in your eyes.

Not Your Aunty’s Chicken

Not Your Aunty’s Chicken

To be honest, it’s really hard for me to run a successful blog and not include recipes. I cook almost every single day. Although I typically like to create meals that are nutritionally dense, every once in a awhile, the southern girl in me comes out. One of my go-to recipes is a low carb, keto fried chicken recipe that is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Aside from few simple ingredients, all you really need to get the most ideal crispiness is an air fryer. The air fyer I have been totally obsessed with is the Insginia 3.2 L Air Fryer from Best Buy. I actually like it more than my InstaPot *gasp*.

*If you are an avid Amazon shopper like me, this one has great reviews and of course, on Prime: https://amzn.to/2teeu4B

Also, I should mention that my husband really loves spicy food, so most of my savory recipes have a kick to them. This, of course can be tweaked to fit your palette. If you prefer a milder option, don’t use Tapatio in the egg wash, skip the chili powder and lastly, use the non-spicy version of the fried pork rinds.

easy chicken recipe using air fryer

Easy Keto Fried Chicken

Healthy and easy keto fried chicken that’s crispy and spicy. Low carb and great for entertaining.

Prep Time 10 minutes

Cook Time 21 minutes

Air Fryer I am OBSESSED with: https://amzn.to/2GmdL97

Ingredients

  • 5 chicken drumsticks

Egg Wash:

  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon of Tapatio hot sauce

Seasoning:

*optional: a dash of chili powder

Crunchy Coating:

5 oz bag of Baken-Ets Spicy Fried Pork Skins or Mission Tortilla Chicharrones

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, add eggs and Tapatio sauce, beating until well-mixed. In another bowl, take all seasoning ingredients and evenly distribute onto drumsticks.
  2. In a gallon size zip lock back, empty entire bag of fried pork skins and seal ziplock. Use rolling pin to crush the pork skins into a finely ground crumb texture.
  3. Add seasoned drumsticks to egg wash, coating all sides. Shake off excess and placed drumstick into fried pork skins. Repeat with the other chicken pieces. Only coat 1 piece of chicken at a time to minimize the amount of time chicken is in egg wash. Also, you may want to work in batches to avoid overcrowding in the pot — I usually have 5 chicken pieces frying simultaneously in my 3.2 L Air fryer.
  4. Program air fryer to 360 degrees and cook chicken for 21 mins.
  5. Top with freshly cut cilantro serve immediately while hot and crispy.

*If you do make this recipe in the oven, I would bake the chicken on an elevated/vented rack at 375 for about 30 mins. The internal temp should read 165 degrees when it’s done.

How To Get Rid Of Bad Breath Quickly

Bad breath is probably the most non-glamorous thing I will discuss on this blog. It’s honestly just not chic or fun to discuss all the bacteria building their own little eco system on the same thing you swish rose on. But this post is an evil necessary, for both lifestyle and beauty lovers. It’s just not the best look to have an amazing lip combo, accompanied by bad oral hygiene. It’s also just flat out unhealthy. The one thing that’s missing in your beauty routine right now (if you’re not already doing this) is a tongue scraper. A stainless steel one to be specific.

Using a tongue scraper before and after you brush your teeth is the bad breath remedy you didn’t know you needed.

Tongue scraping has been around for centuries and dates back to ancient Indian Holistic (Ayurvedic) practices. Ayurveda literally translates to “medicine”. It is based on the principles that the balance between mind, body, and spirit is key for ideal, optimal health. According to Ayurvedic practices, the thick layer of white or yellow film that builds up on the tongue overnight is called “Ama” and considered to be toxic residue.

This toxic residue, whether you are super into Ayurveda or not, really does hold a ton of bacteria. The layer that masks the tongue can actually impact your immune system negatively if you don’t remove it prior to ingesting anything in the morning (including that first sip of coffee). It can also retain food and debris that we may have missed when brushing before bed as well. If you don’t carefully maintain proper tongue health, you could experience gum recession as well. Scraping the tongue is also key for eliminating bad breath and aerates the tastes buds. When the taste buds are aerated properly, you taste food on a more satiating level and tend not to overeat.

Here are a few quick tips for tongue scraping:

-Use that that is stainless steel/made of unalloyed metals. Plastic ones are often made with harmful chemicals and don’t work as efficiently.

-Make sure that the arms of the tongue scraper are flexible/non-gagging to reach the entire length of tongue.

-Use a few firm strokes before and after brushing to ensure that no residue is left behind.

-Keep a separate toothbrush to clean off the tongue scraper and avoid buildup.

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define + Swatches

Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define + Swatches

We hear the phrase ‘You get what you pay for’ quite a bit. Often, it’s used to talk down about product choices we regret, or other cheap, frivolous purchases. It’s safe to say the associated connotation of value and price are no longer directly related. Let’s face it; in the age of all things Instagram MUA’s and YouTube Beauty Guru’s, makeup across all price points has improved drastically. For the first time ever, manufacturers are actually meeting demand instantly with formulas, shade ranges, educational videos i.e. youtube and accessibility (hello Dose of Colors at Ulta). Drugstore makeup has totally stepped up to the plate and can compete, if not beat high end products in certain categories. While other high end lines undergo PR nightmares for their lack of inclusivity, Makeup Revolution launched their ‘Conceal and Define’ concealers via Ulta.com. This concealer was a big deal for many reasons, but mainly because it is said to rival the notorious Tarte ‘Shape Tape’ concealer. I will be the first to admit that I was super diehard ‘Shape Tape’ because I loved the coverage, doe foot application and shade range. When the Makeup Revolution ‘Conceal and Define’ concealer hit the market, I had to try it. It was only $7, compared to the Tarte ‘Shape Tape’, which retails for $27. The only downside is that since you can only purchase them online, it was hard for me to figure out what my shades were. I went with C9 for the highlight, C12 for the overall face and C15 for the contour shade.

So when I try any face product out, like foundation, concealer, primers or even moisturizes, I like to see how they perform under a wide variety of circumstances. I paired the concealer with my L’Oreal Magic Lumi Primer, Benefit Pore Fessional Primer and lastly, no primer at all. The foundations I tried ranged from my holy grail: Urban Decay ‘All Nighter Foundation’, Covergirl Online Only Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-In-1 Foundation, and then the NYX ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation’. The concealer is the most perfect hybrid of the Nars ‘Creamy Concealer’ and Tarte ‘Shape Tape’. It’s hydrating, silky and bendable, but has great coverage. When I want something opaque, but don’t want it to dry down and look too ‘done up’, this is what I have been going for. My preferred method for sheering this out over the skin is with a damp beauty sponge (here’s my current fav). To keep the under eyes highlighted and covered, I like to used a MAC 224 brush. For $7, it’s hard to believe this little vial of concealer perfection is the magical potion the market was crying out for. The line offers 25 shades and the company’s IG featured a swatch photo, which is what I used to choose my shades. I will say that I do have to build up the product quite a bit to have it match the coverage intensity of the ‘Shape Tape’, but so far, that hasn’t bothered me and I set the under eye area with my favorite Laura Mercier Translucent Loose powder.

You guys, I think I found a winner, and you better believe I got what I paid for, ten fold.

How To Get a Thinner Waist

how to get a smaller waist

Aside from a cleaner diet, and regular exercise (which I am working on a lot more frequently these days), we can create the illusion of a smaller, thinner waist. There are clothing pieces that will work in our favor to cinch the waist in, and compliment any body top. Now, the only reason I’m even addressing this is because I don’t have a very defined waist. My body shape is more, er, well, square I suppose.

This issue of creating lines and illusions to pull in the waist is something I’ve been crafting up since I realized that I didn’t have an hourglass shape.

Aside from being super complimentary, they add the perfect amount of punch to any look. It’s the most ideal hybrid of fancy with a touch of casual. These tops are like the waist shaper’s you’ve see on Instagram, without all the unwarranted organ damage.

Also, this super chic waist-defining style can be found in dresses as well. Clothing that pulls you in the waist to enhance your shape, and make you feel super polished and pull together is my kind of clothing. The top I’m wearing here is officially sold out, but I’ve linked a few flattering pieces I cannot wait to snag.

Are you a blogger?

Are you a blogger?

So as some of my readers know, I’ve been in an on and off relationship with my blog. I’ve been devoted to it, broken up with it, been recognized by Allure magazine for it, and ultimately went on longest hiatus to date. Upon turning 30 soon (eek!), I realized that I missed it. What I have chosen to break up with is the way I treated it and reconcile with my love for encouraging others. A few years ago, when my goal to was inspire other girls to paint themselves in confidence with makeup, and wear clothing that was affordable and stylish, I was struggling with so many more of my own issues. While I was preaching to ‘love yourself’ and ‘know your worth’, I battled being outrageously hypercritical of my posts. Each video, photo, post, and follow/subscriber count begin to dictate my self-perception. Don’t get me wrong, I know many are harsh on themselves, especially those who are very ‘Type A’ like myself, but these dragons became even more difficult to combat while literally dying inside a job/career that I could not flourish in.

Fast-forwarding to today, I am now stepping into the most positive space I’ve ever been in. I vow to myself, my readers and fellow style devotees to press on, even when we don’t feel like it. I’ve left the job that crushed my spirit, pursued a new career in healthcare and have obtained the most functional relationship with food and the gym that I’ve ever had. If you didn’t know, I’ve been on a diet since the 3rd grade, been a wide array of sizes and have used food/lack of food as a coping mechanism. I’m leaving all of the insecurities that stopped me from blogging in the past, and promising myself to never let those false ideals to determine my gratitude, love and appreciation for how fabulous life truly is.

In this new chapter, as I ditch the negativity, I plan on travelling with my husband, going with the flow, bouncing back from bad days better and laughing harder than ever before. Cheers to best of times, cheers to 30.
